A Moment by Sam Biggers Psalm 23:1

As a shepherd, David without doubt provided the best care possible for the sheep under his care. He understood the duties of an excellent shepherd was to provide calm, clean water to satisfy their thirst, good grazing with a place to rest, constant protection, the necessity to lead and watch over the flock at all times. He literally lived with the sheep. Through this relationship as a shepherd to his sheep, he came to realize the deep loving and tender relationship God had with him, and so he declares, “Yahweh-Rohi is my Shepherd. I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

This relationship was personal. He continued to explain and gives us insight about this relationship and paints a majestic portrait of our Good Shepherd. He gives those who know Christ an ever expanding view of rest, restoration, renewal, guidance, protection, peace, security, abundant provision and promises of blessings beyond our natural and spiritual understanding, not only of our temporary needs in this life, but eternal life.

My heart is challenged to take time to ponder and appreciate this profound passage of Scripture so I may learn to trust and love Him more each day. May we further encounter the unfathomable depth and love of an ever abiding, eternal Shepherd.
