February 21, 2018 – Please pray for Dominica
Dominica, officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island republic. It is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. The island lies south-southeast of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique. The capital is Roseau.
Dominica is largely covered by rain forest and is home to the world’s second-largest hot spring, Boiling Lake. Dominica has many waterfalls, springs, and rivers. The Calibishie area in the country’s northeast has sandy beaches. Some plants and animals thought to be extinct on surrounding islands can still be found in Dominica’s forests.
The population is approximately 70,500.
About 80% of the population is Roman Catholic, though in recent years a number of Protestant churches have been established. About 10 – 12% of the population belongs to one of the 7th day (Saturday) denominations, which includes Yahweh Congregation, Church of God (Seventh-Day) and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The above are from en.wikipedia.org. These statements have not been fact-checked and are only used here to help us gain a better understanding of this nation.
Little is revealed about this small island’s religious practices. There is always a need within any country that needs prayer. There are Christians who need encouragement and there are those who do not know Christ. Both are reasons to lift up this small nation in prayer.
Here are a few thoughts on how we can pray for Dominica – they are the same as many we have already prayed for.
1. Pray for those within the nation who are committed believers in Jesus to faithfully share the Gospel in love.
2. Pray for the local pastors to be encouraged to trust in the Lord for leadership and that their influence will impact the nation.
3. Pray for a breakthrough and for a spiritual awakening to sweep across this small nation.
